The options are really vast when it comes to air beds. There are many different brands to choose from and different materials air mattresses are made of. And when it comes to pr ices, they range from around $50 to as much as $1200, depending upon the size, quality and comfort of the mattress you choose. The cheaper air mattresses may not have the same styling and comfort as a premium air mattress, and it may not come with a 30-day exchange or refund option. So, depending upon the type of mattress you choose, the pricing will vary accordingly.

The cheaper ones sell for $50 to $100. They may not come with a pump, which makes blowing them up extremely difficult. It is recommended that if the mattress does not come with a pump that you go out and buy one. They are reasonably priced, and you will need it! Perhaps you own another air mattress that did come with a pump. Less expensive air mattresses come with a nylon lining. Some may have a quilted or fleece lining, but you will pay closer to $100 for those.

The next step up in air mattresses is the mid range from over $100, up to around $300. These mid range mattresses come with a pump and have better lining like fleece. Some are equipped with a heating control system, which is adjustable and can provide heat to all night long. Of course these features add to the price.

The higher priced air mattresses are between $300 and $1200. These mattresses are very plush compared to the less expensive ones and have a variety of features. Most come with an electric pump have built in pillow tops and rich fleece lining. They are extremely comfortable and offer an internal heating system. The high-end air mattresses all come with a trial option and a warranty of some type. Sizes of the mattresses determine the prices. The smaller or single mattresses are, of course, cheaper as compared to queen size for a king size mattress.

What are the features to look for in an air mattress? The following is a guide to help you identify the best air mattress to purchase:

Fabric - the quality of the fabric is determined by the purpose of use and maintenance of the mattress to prolong the life of the mattress. It is important that the fabric used is flexible and durable. The quality of the fabric is the determining factor of the reliability and longevity of your mattress.

Comfort and Support - the design of the mattress determines the comfort and support level that it is made of. For instance, it is important to check that the mattress has a mattress pad for added cushioning and protection, one touch control for easy adjustment and a q-coil construction that ensures that the air mattress does not sag or bow.

Inflation Method - there are various ways to inflate an air mattress. One is to blow in air using your own lung power and the other is to use a one-way inflation valve. A one way inflation valve contains a flap to trap air in the mattress as air is blown into it. It is obviously wiser to obtain a mattress that has an inflation valve, as it will be much less of a hassle. However, the best alternative is the air mattress that has a manual or electric air pump that makes inflation even easier.

Construction and Durability - Many people tend to look at the quality of the plastic that the mattress is made of when purchasing. Even though it is essential, we can be assured that that the plastic used may look thin but it is undoubtedly strong. The real cause for concern should be the quality of the welds that grip the mattress together. The welds of a good quality model of mattress are less likely to fail along the seam lines over a period of usage or under extensive usage.
